the important thing
Casino Lectoure hosts Cœur de Pirate on Friday, July 29, for a free concert. The singer from Quebec will present her biggest titles and her latest opus “Impossible to Love”.
More than ten years after “Comme des enfants”, Beatrice Martin, known under the pseudonym Cœur de Pirate, published her new opus “Impossible to love” in autumn. In full tour, she is passing through Lectoure Casino on July 29 for a free concert. Interview with the singer-songwriter.
You are returning to the stage after vocal cord surgery. How are you feeling ?
It gives me hope because I was very afraid that I wouldn’t be able to sing anymore. It was a really great moment to see everything back.
How is this start of the French tour going?
After two years, it’s really nice to be back on the road. I’m glad to know the public is there. Touring in France is always a bit like a holiday because I can visit. I’m going sightseeing (laughter). I will be singing in Lectoure for the first time, although I have already been to the region. I think I’ll have time to visit a bit.
What will your concert at Lectoure Casino look like?
It should be a great experience for the audience. I’m going to do a lot of songs that people know from my six albums. I will also be performing songs from my new album, which is coming out in the fall, called “Impossible to Love”.
In this very personal opus, you look back on your breakups.
All my albums are personal. I’ve talked about my breakups and that’s fine, because that’s what people love about Cœur de Pirate. Now that I’ve started, I’ll continue.
Musically, we find discos and a pop atmosphere. Are these the universes you’ve been wanting to explore?
I wanted to pay tribute to the French song of the 1970s, so there are several types of music on this album. I was researching it for this album, but what do you think it will be just for this one.
There is a disconnect between those sad love songs and catchy disco tunes.
Yes, I wanted to show that when bad things happen to us, there is no point in dwelling on them. With more upbeat music, it’s a more positive message in negative experiences. Afterwards, it’s still Cœur de Pirate, so the speech and the use of metaphors are still there.
Berywam, in the first part
The first part of this free concert will be provided by a group of beatboxers from Toulouse, Berywam, who released their first album “No instrument” at the beginning of the year. The group, consisting of Wawad and Beatness from Toulouse and Ryhtming and Beasty, will give a full performance, only with the vocal cords of the four boys. French Champion in 2016 and World Team Champion in 2018, Berywam has performed the first parts of Toulouse duo Big Flo and Oli on several occasions.
