Viñales ready to help Espargaro against Quartararo – GP Inside

Faster and faster at the wheel of the Aprilia RS-GP, Maverick Viñales said he is ready to lend a hand to his team-mate Alejandro Espargaro in the fight for the MotoGP world title.

Faster than ever in recent weeks, Alejandro Espargaro has moved from top 10 to MotoGP World Championship contender year after year. After 11 of the 20 Grands Prix on the calendar, the Spaniard is second in the general classification, just 21 points behind Fabio Quartararo. And on the evening of the last day of the race in Assen, he appointed the French a date for the second half of the season.

So, in his quest, Aleix Espargaro will have to face Fabio Quartararo, but not only. Ducati riders Johan Zarca, Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini are also planning to join the fray. And if the Ducatista leaders rule out any team orders in this fight for the time being, it could very well take place at Aprilia Racing. The marque’s co-driver, Maverick Viñales, made it clear to Assen that if necessary he would allow Aleix Espargaro to pass so that he could score more points.

Mounted on the Aprilia RS-GP in September 2021, Maverick Viñales moved slowly but surely. The spring of 2022 allowed him to overcome several stages and it showed in the results: he was fourth at the Sachsenring before retiring with a technical problem, then finished third at Assen. If he can maintain this level of performance, he could turn into a luxury ally for Aleix Espargar.

At Yamaha, we hope that Franco Marbidelli can do the same for Fabio Quartararo. The Italian is still far from the mark, as he has only finished in the top 10 once this season. As for Ducati, we can think that if there is a clear favorite in the ranks of the “red” in the coming weeks, other riders will be able to lend him a hand.
